Complex and High-Performance Endorsements

Ready to expand your skills and fly more advanced aircraft? Avit Flight Academy offers the ground and flight training you need to earn your Complex and High-Performance Endorsements.

These endorsements allow pilots to act as pilot in command of aircraft with more advanced systems and performance capabilities. They are valuable additions to your logbook whether you are preparing for commercial training, pursuing a professional aviation career or simply want to fly a wider variety of aircraft.

Complex Endorsement

A complex airplane is equipped with retractable landing gear, flaps and a controllable-pitch propeller.

Complex training introduces you to the additional systems, procedures and decision-making involved in operating these aircraft. Training may include:

  • Retractable landing-gear operation
  • Proper use of flaps
  • Constant-speed propeller operation
  • Engine and power management
  • Aircraft systems and limitations
  • Normal, abnormal and emergency procedures
  • Takeoffs, landings and go-arounds
  • Checklist use and cockpit management

To act as pilot in command of a complex airplane, you must receive and log ground and flight training from a flight instructor. Once you demonstrate proficiency in the operation and systems of the aircraft, your instructor will provide a one-time logbook endorsement. Train for your complex endorsement in our Piper Arrow PA-28-RT-201 based at Wadsworth Municipal Airport.

High-Performance Endorsement

The FAA defines a high-performance airplane as an airplane with an engine producing more than 200 horsepower.

High-performance aircraft often require pilots to manage increased power, speed and workload. Training may include:

  • Engine operation and power management
  • Aircraft performance and limitations
  • Takeoff, climb, cruise and landing procedures
  • Fuel and mixture management
  • Proper use of aircraft systems
  • Emergency procedures
  • Planning for higher speeds and increased performance
  • Maintaining situational awareness throughout each phase of flight

To act as pilot in command of a high-performance airplane, you must receive and log ground and flight training from a flight instructor. After you demonstrate proficiency, your instructor will provide a one-time logbook endorsement. Earn your High Performance endorsement in our Cessna 182 based at Akron Fulton Airport.

How Long Does the Training Take?

The FAA does not establish a minimum number of training hours for either endorsement. The amount of training needed depends on your experience, proficiency and familiarity with the aircraft. Your Avit flight instructor will provide personalized, one-on-one training and help you develop the skills and confidence needed to operate the aircraft safely.
